Columbia College Class of 1983 member accepts Vice Presidency
by Ken Houghton
This one.
Jesse Walker (h/t Jim Henley), who can rationalize that Bob Barr was a good choice, is not happy:
They must think they're the Republican Party of eight years ago.
No, not that one.
This one.
Jesse Walker (h/t Jim Henley), who can rationalize that Bob Barr was a good choice, is not happy:
But given the number of party activists who are wary of the former congressman, and given Barr's deficiencies on several issues, it would have made sense to round off the ticket with a more hardcore libertarian....Instead the delegates opted for another member of the party's conservative wing. Worse yet, the conservative they picked was Wayne Allyn Root, a man with the deportment of a Ronco pitchman with a squirrel in his pants.
They must think they're the Republican Party of eight years ago.

"Why'd You Say Burma?" "Panicked."
by Ken Houghton
Oh, right; I forgot. We don't need to be gracious or courteous in the eyes of the rest of the world, especially when we're "implor[ing] the United Nations on Tuesday to recommit itself to restoring human decency by liberating oppressed people and ending famine and disease."
Maybe it's time to take a few more shots that make the Iranian president look intelligent, instead of showing him for what he is:
Watching The Daily Show: does the Bush administration still not acknowledge that Burma became Myanmar, in the eyes of the United Nations, nineteen years ago?

The Continued Mainstreaming of Stephen Colbert
by Ken Houghton
But it's the description that is eye-catching:
He got a Ben and Jerry's ice cream. And now he's being used to promote talking with a mathematician.
In some obscure corner of the universe, Richard Cohen is turning over in his grave.
Those in NYC may (or may not) wish to attend the gathering this coming Monday of Columbia University's Cafe Science series, in which Sylvia Nassar (author of A Beautiful Mind, which was adapted into an obscure art film) interviews mathematician John W. Morgan.
But it's the description that is eye-catching:
WHEN MATH MAKES HEADLINES OR HOW THE POINCARÉ CONJECTURE WOUND UP ON THE COLBERT REPORT
He got a Ben and Jerry's ice cream. And now he's being used to promote talking with a mathematician.
In some obscure corner of the universe, Richard Cohen is turning over in his grave.
