Question of the Day

by Tom Bozzo

What fraction of total U.S. net worth is held by the lower 50 percent of the wealth distribution, according to the most recent available data?

A: 2.5 percent.
I've saved the paper to read later, when my headache has faded a bit more. But my first reaction to that statistic is simply to feel my jaw dropping.
I hear you, PS. Equally jaw-dropping is that the recent peak was all of 3.8 percent.

You might also check out David Leonhardt in today's NYT, about which I may have more to say later -- very scarce time permitting.
