Seat Heaters: The Greatest Gift Of The Luxury Car Industry To The Upper Midwest

by Tom Bozzo

Just saying. Note that the temperature in Madison as of 9:53 A.M. CDT is 33 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius for metric visitors) lower than the 24-hours-ago reading. I'll add that gusts on top of the 10 MPH WNW breeze make it feel colder. Talk about falling into Fall.

Five months from now, of course, I'll be saying "43 whole degrees [F], whoopee!!"

My deepest condolences... I guess that takes care of the nice bike rides to work in the a.m. We're due for a cold front as well, but it's more like it will go from the upper 70's/low 80's to the upper 60's by tomorrow. I can still handle that. But thanks for the heads-up - I'll pack accordingly for next weekend!

Could be worse, Mom.

Next week's forecast is for Lovely Fall Weather. We'll see if it holds up through the weekend.

Hmmm, I've never thought of my 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback as a luxury car before.

CNN International notes (via Lancet) that SUVs are 2-4 times more likely to cause pedestrian injury and death (especially those of old people and children) than other cars. No mention of bicyclists.

In other news, the sun sets in the West.

Ken, it's more that seat heaters are a sybaritic luxury of the not-too-distant past that have since become de rigueur on high trims of mass-market car models.

I will note that when I was looking into the possibility of switching to a more efficient city runabout-type car recently, Acura lost a sale by virtue of a decision to offer heated seats on certain RSX's sold in Canada, but not on the comparable U.S. models (not even as an offering specific to colder sales regions).
