Kissing Up to the Boss

by Tom Bozzo

From the Diocese of Madison:
Bishop Robert C. Morlino welcomed the election of Pope Benedict XVI on April 19 and told a press conference following the news Tuesday that he was "pumped up" about the new successor of St. Peter.
And Pope Benedict is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life (link).
Morlino said: "He is one of the most brilliant theologians in the history of the church. He will lead us all into a deeper friendship with the Lord, which involves knowing the truth about Jesus. He can articulate it, speak it, and show it. He has the ability to pull it all together for us."

"I am confident Pope Benedict will be a singular blessing for the church," said Morlino. "I welcome him with love and promise him our loyalty in the days ahead."
But seriously, hoist a Ratzinger Zinger(*) or two, and read this fair and balanced 1999 article from the National Catholic Reporter (link via Pharyngula commenter 'Bistroist') for everything you'd ever need to know.

(*) I'm still trying to figure out what this should be and whether I'd want to drink it. Just what is the German contribution to the cocktail world?
The image of a "pumped up" priest is not one of which Ratzinger would approve, is it??

Peppermint Schnapps.

"not what Jesus had in mind" is good, but he, after all, was Jewish.

As I said elsewhere, it is a time to weep for the South Americans and the Africans.
I've always been curious as to how much money and property the church really has. I doubt but a handful of people truly know.
I tend to think of the Catholic Church (aggregating its various operating units) as property-rich but cash-poor.
At least our bishop was a tad more understated in his reaction to the announcement, although he made some sappy remark tantamount to how at least Mussolini kept the trains running on time! Actually, around my place of employment, the new Pope is referred to as the German Shepherd (get it?. Flowing from that is a whole host of items such as what the new Swiss Guard uniforms are going to look like (c.f.SS garb) and the modifications being made to the Popemobile , aka Panzer tank. It goes downhill from there....
