Low-Hanging Fruit

by Ken Houghton

The Sainted Tanta decides not to pick just on "Relitters," and goes after a senior fellow in economic history at the Council on Foreign Relations" who writes an op-ed for Bloomberg "which may possibly be one of the most ridiculous things I've read in nearly a whole week."

I make the mistake of following the link, wondering if, for once, I was going to defend an economist.

Then I found out it was Amity Shlaes.

Never mind.

I respond personally rather often, directly to Ms Schlaes, in order to voice my objections to her drivel. She has not once responded (rare amongst BBG editorial contributors) either to justify her arguments or defend herself from the insults in regards to how she could let herself employ such lame, and baseless arguments and still call herself a "journalist". Even Gene Sperlings AEI editorial nemesis responds with polite counterpoints. I really do not understand how or who is responsible for lending Ms Schlaes the BBG pulpit.

Hi, I have read tanta's post on calculated risk and it is clearly labeled humor. I think you are right that journalists should give thought before putting pen to paper, but freedom of speech is the flip side of that argument
